Parking occupancy control using radar and LoRaWAN

Development and installation of an intelligent system for controlling occupancy in a public parking lot, combining radar sensors, LoRaWAN technology and informational displays. The system identifies vehicles, pedestrians and direction of travel, sending data in real time to the management panel and improving operational efficiency and safety.

  • Client: Infrastructure manager
  • Location: Urban area in northern Spain
  • Technology: Radar sensors + LoRaWAN + informational LED displays
  • Features: Vehicle and pedestrian detection, access control and bidirectional counting
  • Integration: Communication with centralized IoT platform

Achieved results

Real-time awareness of occupancy levels and dynamic signage on displays. Automatic notifications to operators via the LoRaWAN network. Accurate detection in adverse weather conditions thanks to radar sensing.

Technical details

Sensing

Doppler radar detectors with object classification (people/vehicles) and direction detection.

Communications

Private LoRaWAN network linking sensors, gateways and displays; IP backhaul with QoS to prioritize events.

Management

Integration with cloud-based management application: dashboards, alerts, history logs and remote parameter control.
